Carrie's Passion for Art
Carrie Wright is a Canadian artist who creates from a place of quiet wonder — drawing inspiration from nature’s small miracles and the gentle magic woven into everyday life. For more than a decade her #weeklyartproject has been a practice of noticing, slowing down, and transforming simple moments into colour and line, and she has documented on Instagram a steady practice of experimentation across multiple mediums like acrylics, watercolour, ink, pencil, Copic markers, and playful mixed media. Through Perchance To Dream, she shares art meant to uplift: original cards, custom pieces, and paintings that carry a whisper of joy, a breath of calm, and a reminder to look for beauty in the ordinary.
The History of Carrie's Art JourNey
- Art has always been a part of Carrie’s life. Ever since she was a child, she found joy in creating — give her glue, scissors, and paper, and she would happily spend an afternoon making something new. Drawing quickly became her favourite medium, and she was especially captivated by animals, filling sketchbooks with them from a young age.
- High school Art class opened new doors, giving her the freedom to explore mediums beyond pencil and sparking fresh creative impulses. University and her career as an English teacher naturally shifted her focus, but she continued to sketch for pleasure and often created coloured‑crayon illustrations of beloved animated characters as gifts for friends.
The History of Carrie's Art JourNey
- Motherhood brought a new creative renaissance. As she made art with her two sons, a new idea took shape — one that grew into her long‑running website FamilyThemeDays. For sixteen years, she shared art projects, learning activities, and recipes, all linked to fun themes that encouraged family literacy and meaningful time together.
- In 2014, Carrie rekindled her personal artistic practice by taking a few community art classes as a “Mom’s Night Out.” That spark never faded. She began experimenting with a wide range of mediums and, in 2016, set a New Year’s resolution to create one art project every week. To keep herself accountable, she posted each piece on Instagram under the hashtag #weeklyartproject— a practice she has now maintained for ten years.
The History of Carrie's Art JourNey
- Today, Carrie works consistently in ink, watercolour, Copic markers, pencil, acrylics and other playful materials. She loves experimenting with new tools and techniques. Nature remains a predominant theme in her work, and each original art card and piece is created with the intention of spreading joy and celebrating the beauty found in everyday moments.
- As friends began commissioning small drawings and cards, Carrie realized it was time to take the next step. In 2022, she launched her small art business, beginning with a Facebook page and now expanding to this website — a heartfelt collaboration with her father, whose own paintings are also featured.
- Carrie Wright now sells Original Art Cards, Printed Cards, Custom Cards upon request, as well as paintings and other hand‑painted pieces. She also occasionally teaches informal art classes, inspiring others to explore whimsical Zen Doodle creations and discover the simple joy of making art.
